Sizing up the situation

Posted by Matt on March 29, 2009

I am developing a high-level conceptual map for a research project culminating in a long paper or a student note for a law journal. Going forward the work will probably be the seed for further writing and research. My goal is to create the nexus or the seed pod, which holds the many ideas and concepts that lie at the heart of this work.

The links between the ideas are fleeting, never staying put long enough to solidify into something more solid. Each idea is viable in and of itself. The task now is how the ideas relate to one another under a more cohesive pattern – therein lies the work. These ideas fall under general topics and cover a variety of areas: regulation, control, risk assessment, compliance, due care, security, privacy.

Welcome

Posted by Matt on March 28, 2009

This blog was started in March 2009 and is a work in progress.

This blog is meant to be a vehicle for my thoughts, ideas, models and other random information resulting from my pursuit of an ideal information risk management and governance model. A model such as this is typically needed in large companies, especially those in regulated industries.

The blog will explore topics in information security, consumer privacy, federal and state regulation, private and industry promulgated regulation, state and federal regulation, common law, risk models, risk management, governance models, control frameworks and standards, to name a few.

The goal is to create methodologies and approaches to data risk governance that seamlessly integrate the above topics.

I am seeking like minded professionals, who are on similar journeys of their own, to offer critique, comments and personal insight. I look forward to collaborating with you.

Much more to come…..
